Our Nursery

We offer both indoor and outdoor spaces, combining calm, gentle, cosy and comfortable atmosphere, with free flow outdoor spaces, allowing for different social dynamics to emerge, as well as providing an opportunity for children to begin to love and care for their environment.

Inside

We refer to the environment as ‘The Third Teacher’, parents being the first and early years educators the second.

Our nursery space is designed to be home-like, the colours neutral to create a calm, gentle, cosy, comfortable and secure atmosphere.

We have quiet spaces for rest, a home area, space for floor play and building large constructions, areas for multi-use of provocations of the children’s interests and invitations to learn.

The Curiosity Approach

our ethos

The Curiosity Approach embodies a dynamic and inventive approach to fostering child development during the early years. With a strong emphasis on placing children at the centre of the learning journey, it offers countless avenues for exploration, imagination, and creative expression. This approach opens doors for children to engage, discover, and shape their own learning experiences. The innovative method nurtures and empowers children, allowing them to flourish and grow.

Indoor Resources

The furniture is made of wood, and the resources are authentic. Toys are all made of natural materials to allow maximum scope for imaginative use as props in children’s play. They include wooden blocks and logs, wood slices, peg doll people. We have loose parts such as shells, wooden pieces, dried fruits and pine cones etc which can be used for transient art, making patterns, counting to represent food when baking in the home area.

In the home area, authentic resources, giving the feel of a home from home. These resources provide children to understand the need to care for their toys, to treat them with respect and love, so they do not get broken. A cosy area filled with blankets and cushions, enhanced with chosen picture books to support times when children wish to rest.

Getting Outside…

01.

Our nursery has two safe outdoor play areas one ensuring free flow play, and a space with bushes, trees and digging areas.

Our free flow outdoor space includes a reading cubby surrounded by planters where we plant and grow herbs and produce. We have wildflowers planted to encourage bees, butterfly’s and other insects, large sandpit and water area, construction and a wood hideout that can be whatever the children want it to be.

02.

Our second area is based on the school grounds where we can use the large field and wooden climbing, balancing and swinging equipment. A smaller area attached to this is just for the nursery, where we have a digging area, more vegetable planters, a small trail to a hidden den and a wigwam for rest, filled with cushions and blankets. Play outdoors can also have a different quality from the indoor play, allowing for different social dynamics to emerge, as well as providing an opportunity for children to begin to love and care for their environment.

Our commitment to the outdoors…

We are particularly committed to the importance of the outdoors and what the natural curriculum offers as a daily learning experience for the children. It could be that the children begin outside in the morning, or spend the whole morning, or most of the day outside.

We join the school reception class weekly here our children will spend time in a forest area with a trained Forest School Practitioner, this is all year round including rain and snow. This is a time when the children really being to develop the confidence to challenge themselves, and they also take the opportunity to play with their friends that are now in reception class.
Recycling and composting are part of the eco school ethos, where children enjoy adding to and turning the compost bin.
